Well my kids have got just a teensy bit bored of modelling for me, but once a year when it's the boys' birthday weekend there is no escape from me and my camera. I didn't have long before they ran off to more exciting electronic diversions but managed to grab a few for the album. Here they are:

Victoria celebrated her 15th birthday by having a photoshoot party with her friends - this was all in the comfort of her own home so the girls could amuse themselves upstairs while I was taking photos. Although actually we ended up with an audience as they most seemed to want to watch what was going on behind the camera. Here are some of their images from the day and it is great to see the girls using them on Facebook too.

So, the final turkey leftovers have been demolished, the fridge replenished and all the snow melted. It was good to get back behind the camera after a bit of a break and photograph this family with two little girls who had won a voucher a few months back. Nothing like fitting it in before the end of the year expiry date! Here are a few from the session:

Now I am more of a cat person really, but this family were keen to include ALL the family in the photoshoot so brought their cute little terrier along to the studio session. He was brilliant and actually settled himself down for a sleep in the middle of the session once he'd posed for his shots! This was a great session with lots of outfit changes and some lovely photos at the end of it. Now just for them to decide which ones will get pride of place on their walls:

Andy and Alex's Autumn wedding

The last weekend of October was the date for Andy and Alex's wedding - the day the clocks changed, the day before Halloween, and as it turned out, the most fabulous warm and sunny day in October. The flowers and decorations had a lovely autumn burnt orange theme that was just perfect for the season and it was a wonderful day all round with the reception at the The Compleat Anger, Marlow - a beautiful riverside location. It was so warm that guests did even mill about outside enjoying the view for a while.

Fireworks night in Beaconsfield

Every year when it gets to fireworks night I think to myself "shall I take my camera along for some fireworks shots?" and every year I decide it'll be too complicated with tripods, children, hot mulled wine and the like all getting mixed up. But having been annoyed at missing out last year, this time I decided to give it a go - particularly as it was such a warm dry and clear evening - just perfect.

Last week I had the chance to photograph a lady only a little younger than me but substantially more photogenic. She was a great model and we had a good session in the studio with a gorgeous (fake) fur coat amongst other things! I bet many mothers of three wish they looked like this - next time you are at the school gate, look a little closer at what gorgeousness is hiding there:

Baby Jack

This afternoon I took photos of baby Jack at the tender age of only 12 days. Jack's Mum Karen managed to combine the arrival of her fourth son with the launch of her business Kiddiebase - an online shopping base where you can access all sorts of baby and child related items from toys and equipment to gifts and maternity gear. One of the photos will be used in a promotional article in The Guardian next week - look forward to seeing that!

Family visiting from abroad, a new baby and teenagers about to leave for University were all co-ordinated to get everyone together for this photoshoot that spanned three generations. As it was quite a large group we had hoped to get some outside, but with rain pouring down we went for just the studio. Baby Matilda was brilliant and even looked at the camera every now and then for the photos!

This family have three teenage boys, two of which are about to disappear off to University so it was an opportunity to have a family photoshoot while everyone was still around. Very different from tiny tots tearing about the studio, this was much more sedate, but still a bit of time for mucking about. Here are a few of the pictures:

Newborn baby photos

Earlier this week was my chance to capture images of this lovely little baby at only five days old. He was nearly two weeks overdue so not as teeny tiny as some newborns, and having expected a really sleepy little thing, he managed to stay wide awake for most of the session. He has four older brothers so it's going to be a noisy house for him growing up!

I spent Sunday afternoon in London around St Katharine's Dock area shooting three fabulous girls. We hopped around a few different locations to get some real variety into the photos, including a few with Tower Bridge in the background. She's a pretty cool little thing - after all, when your mum has taken you to Glastonbury when only a week old then you can take most things in your stride. This nursery has a fantastic setting where the kids have views of open countryside and cricket fields, all equipped with a great playground. So when I took their photos we had to make the most of that and it made for a very different nursery photo shoot but with some lovely natural photos as a result. London Wedding photos

This is the wedding that should have been in Hawaii but was thwarted by the volcanic ash cloud. So it was kind of special to be part of the re-scheduled celebrations that took place in London instead. The weather just about held off although it was deceptively chilly and we headed off to Clapham Common to get some bride and groom shots amongst the greenery. Once we had got the kids who were using the bandstand as a cricket wicket to move on, we had plenty of space!

Doing what I do, I certainly get to meet some interesting people and this week was no different - I took some photos for Brenda Davies, a spritual healer and medical practitioner who practices all over the world, but especially in Zambia where she has an established practice. This week I took some photos of baby Laila - who was just a couple of weeks old. She was very calm and unflustered by the whole photo thing. I took these photos at their home to make it less disruptive for Mum and baby and it meant that it was easy to intersperse the photos with feeds and nappy changes in a familiar environment.

The night before the parents' ball the kids got to have their own discos in the beautiful marquee - from little ones in Reception up to the Year 6 kids. Pete the funky DJ provided the entertainment and disco and I was inundated with children wanting their photo taken - it was as much as I could do to keep up with the growing line of eager faces! One of my favourite things to photograph is the city or landscape at dusk or dawn when the lights look fantastic. Having been to the local Beaconsfield fair in daylight with the kids, I went back after dark to capture some of the motion and movement of the big rides. Here are some of my favourites.

This week I got to spend some time with young Oscar who is very nearly 1 year old. He is at the cruising round the furniture stage, not quite walking yet, but definitely on the move. We took him out for the day to the London Wetlands Centre in Barnes, where he had a great time admiring the ducks and geese that were all around us. He was a very engaging little chap with a lovely cheeky smile.

Not that she isn't willing, it's just that my enthusiasm for taking her photo has outstripped hers over the last few years! This little girl came to me the day before her 1st birthday for some photos. She was brilliant as we made the most of the sunshine and spring flowers to get some outdoor shots as well as studio. London Markets Symposium Event

I photographed this event again this year. It was the meeting of the London markets to discuss initiatives and plans for the future. Once again it was held on the top floor of City Hall which is fabulous - and with the early start I could get a few shots of London waking up before the meeting actually started. This year instead of the full size cow we had a piglet to decorate the market stall - fantastic!

My local NCT (National Childbirth Trust) asked me if I would like to provide a photo for the front cover of their April magazine. At the time of the request it was snowing outside, and they wanted a Spring photo, so given that I certainly wasn't going to be able to take a new seasonally appropriate one, I selected a few from the archives for them to choose from. They chose one - of my daughter in fact - in the bluebells woods. Here she is on the cover - in print at the delicate age of 5!

This family came originally for some family photos in the studio, but given that it was actually quite a bright, if cold day, we also went outside and I captured some lovely moments in the winter light. In fact the family liked the outdoor photos best of all, and it was quite hard to extract the children when it was time to go home!

SWPP Licentiate Qualification

I was dead pleased to hear this week to hear that I had been awarded the Licentiate qualification by the SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers). It's a recognition by the professional body in my area of photography that my photos have achieved a defined standard. Whilst I appreciate that not many customers are too up to speed with the details of the SWPP qualification system, it was more for my own self development and benefit. Big smile on my face today!

Martin Johnson Evening

Last week I took photos at a private dinner where Martin Johnson was a guest. He might look tall when on the rugby pitch with other rugby players, but he is head and shoulders above normal sized people!

School Prospectus photos

This week I was back at school for the day, taking photos to update The Beacon School's marketing materials - primarily website and prospectus. I got to go round every year group from nursery and pre-school right up to the teenagers in Year 8 so there was the whole spectrum of activities going on, including painting and lego in the nursery to Design Technology and ICT in the upper school. The highlight of the day was an excellent school lunch with the boys in the dining hall - loads of choice and very tasty indeed!

I was recently asked to do a photoshoot for three brothers and their families - to capture them all together in a photo for Grandma. There were six children aged between two and 7 which made for a lively group but it was a fun session although at times I did feel as though I was herding kittens! Here they all are:

Winter wedding

On Saturday I was lucky enough to be photographing my nephew's wedding in London. My concerns about low light proved unfounded with a bright sunny day, but I couldn't entice anyone outside into the sub-zero temperatures after all. It was a real privilege to be so closely involved in the wedding day of two such lovely families. The day was full of laughter and the bride didn't stop smiling.

Winter in the woods

I recently did a family portrait shoot for a family who chose to have outdoors rather than studio style images. We were lucky with a fine winter day before it got too cold and the boys enjoyed playing hide and seek and searching for suitable branches that Mum was lucky enough to take home with her!

Wedding venue

I am taking photos at a winter wedding next week and thought I would visit the venue - Fulham Palace - to see how it will be looking. At 3 pm in the afternoon, the light will be fading which will be something of a challenge. But I took the opportunity to catch some lovely riverside photos - the wedding party will be walking along this part of the river at dusk but I suspect I might be rather too busy on the day to fit in these kind of shots, so it was good to get them taken up front.

October and November have been pretty busy with nursery photos ... lots and lots of children having their photos taken studio style whilst at nursery. It's a busy day for the nurseries and me, but a great way for lots of parents to stock up on photos of their children in time to give as Christmas presents.

Many thanks to the nursery staff for their energy and enthusiasm in getting the children photographed.

Rugby photos

October was filled with lots of rugby, at schools and local tournament. The Amersham & Chiltern tournament started with bright sunshine but rapidly became very soggy. I was pleased enough to capture that moment in between when we were blessed with a rainbow.

But I did get very wet for the rest of the afternoon - never again will I forget to take my waterproofs with me!

SWPP Silver award!

I recently joined the SWPP - the professional body for portrait and wedding photographers. They are a mine of information, full of useful advice, and also run monthly competitions, in which the images are graded from Unclassified to Gold. I entered some images in the September competition and was delighted to scoop a Silver on my first attempt - with the London night shot below. Getting cold and wet that night was worth it after all!

The last shoot of the summer holidays was to capture some images of a client's children as a present for Grandma's 70th birthday. The weather was fine so we did some indoors in the studio and some in the garden. My favourite was also what was chosen for Grandma - the sepia looked lovely in a bronze frame.

Earlier this year I took photos of a fabulous country house in Gloucestershire for an Interior Designer. The house, cinema and "pool room" were all stunning and had been beautifully furnished. The interior Designer has now updated her website to include these images, and those of a London town house that I had photographed last year.
